This summer, Bath City FC has delivered one of the most significant packages of ground improvements in the club’s recent history, funded through a combination of grants, sponsorship, crowdfunding, and hundreds of hours of volunteer labour. Together, these works represent a genuine improvement in the matchday experience and accessibility of the Canon Clarke Stadium at Twerton Park, with further works still to come.

As Chair of the club, I am humbled by the efforts of everyone involved. I’ve made a best guess at 500+ volunteer hours, and wouldn’t be surprised if it was double that. There have been volunteers up ladders painting steel girders, clearing blocked gateways, creating new entrances to the ground, taking down hoardings, fitting soundbars, cutting down metal poles, deep cleaning toilets; the list feels endless. My deep thanks go to all of you, too many to name, for giving this old dame of a ground a long overdue facelift and TLC. There is always more we can do, but what has been achieved is immense, and beyond what I thought possible in a single closed season. Thank you!

Achievements

New Floodlights: Fully Funded

The “lighthouse” project of the summer has been the replacement of our floodlight towers with modern LED lighting, including the demolition of the old towers.

• Premier League LED Floodlight Grant: £98,531
• Crowdfunder and sponsor contributions: £60,778
• Total raised for this project: £159,309 against a project cost of £141,000

The additional funds beyond the £141,000 build cost have been stretched to deliver an incredible number of smaller projects, led by Debbie King, in collaboration with volunteers and local companies including TR Hayes, Herring, and Groves & Millard Signs.
Grants Secured: £195,196

Across three separate grant schemes, the club has now secured:

• PL LED Floodlight Grant: £98,531 (spent — floodlight project complete)
• Perimeter Wall Grant: £65,000 (preliminary approval; to fund a perimeter fencing programme that will enhance player safety)
• Additional Stadium Summer Grant: £31,665 (preliminary approval; to fund improved kitchen facilities and further ground improvements)
• Total grants secured: £195,196

The £65,000 and £31,665 are still to be spent, with both programmes of work planned to be delivered during the 26/27 season.
Transforming Access for Everyon

One of the most pleasing improvements has been a step change in accessibility at Twerton Park, a central priority this summer:

• A new York Gate entrance has been opened up specifically to improve disabled access.
• Wheelchair access to Randall’s has been substantially improved.
• Toilet facilities in many locations have been refurbished, inside and out.
• Women’s facilities have been improved, with a new dedicated facility beside Basil’s at the Bristol end.

These changes mean more of our fanbase can enjoy matchdays comfortably and with dignity. We feel it is a huge start to the improvement goals we have for the club to support inclusivity at the club.

Ground Development, Top to Bottom

Beyond the headline projects, an enormous amount of unseen but essential work has taken place across the stadium:

• Pitch enhancements, including reseeding and topsoil, to improve playing surface quality
• Tree surgery behind the Popular Stand and over the terraces, removing hazards for supporters
• Decoration works across Randall’s, Charlie’s, TR Hayes, and the outside barriers
• Guttering repairs and cleaning across the stadium
• Floor repairs in the toilets, Charlie’s, and the TR Hayes kitchen
• Water tank cleaning and installation of a wastewater meter, reducing our ongoing water costs
• Car park repairs.
• General rubbish clearance, with skips hired to clear years of accumulated waste
• A serviced large mower, cutting the time for pitch maintenance going forward

Further sand banding and pitch drainage repairs are planned for the autumn, once ground conditions allow, continuing our long-term investment in playing surface quality.

It is with a real sense of pride that I can say our home is a better, safer, and more accessible ground than it was three months ago.
