Burridge double fires City Women to opening pre-season victory
Rosie Burridge’s double saw Bath City Women kick-off pre-season with a 2-1 win at Cirencester Town Ladies. The centre-back was given a new role up top and it proved worthwhile with a first half brace. Burridge’s first on 11 minutes was provided by Maddy Brown, who was initially forced wide before drilling across for the forward to hammer in from a yard out. Annie Martin diverted a free-kick over in Cirencester’s best chance of the half before City made it 2-0 five minutes before the break. Sophie Storey’s superb through ball put Burridge clear of the defence and she confidently fired across Ellie Law. The second half was devoid of chances as the searing heat took effect, but Ciren pulled one back from nowhere with 15 minutes left as Jodie Bailey’s intended cross from the back post sailed over Lucy Clay to halve the deficit. Bar the same player firing harmlessly over in the last minute the well-organised City defence soaked up whatever was thrown at them in a handy workout for both clubs.
