Attention turns to the FA Cup on Saturday when Weymouth head to Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park for a 1st Qualifying Round tie.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Having faced new opponents in the first three home games this season, it’s the polar opposite in the FA Cup this weekend. Since first crossing swords on Christmas Day 1908, Bath City and Weymouth have been regular opponents. This is the eighth time they’ve met in the FA Cup, the previous was a 3rd Qualifying Round in 2023 where City won 2-1 at the Bob Lucas Stadium thanks to goals from Dan Hayfield and Scott Wilson.

TRIVIA

  • City last hosted Weymouth in the FA Cup in the 3rd Qualifying Round in 1992. Paul Randall and future manager of both clubs Jerry Gill netted in a 2-0 win.
  • If he plays, Joe Raynes will make his 300th appearance for the club. He netted in a 1-1 draw against Weymouth in March 2024 against cousin Harvey Wiles-Richards, then on loan with the Terras.
  • Weymouth’s last win at Twerton was in October 2003. Lee Phillips, a future City striker, was on target in what proved to be Alan Pridham’s last home game in charge.
  • This is City’s first entry into the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round since 2006, when they defeated Tiverton Town in a replay. If this weekend’s match is drawn the replay will take place on Tuesday 8 September at Weymouth.
  • It is the earliest date wise the Romans have played an FA Cup match in a season since 1980 when they thrashed Glastonbury 7-1 in the Preliminary Round. Graham Withey, one of many who represented Bath City and Weymouth, netted four in the rout.

  • Bath City were defeated twice over the Bank Holiday weekend, with Monday’s loss at Frome only the second time they’ve failed to score under Scott Bartlett.
  • Weymouth hammered 10-man Shepton Mallet 6-0 to reach this stage of the FA Cup. They’ve arrested the slide following successive relegations – they’ve won all six competitive matches this term.
