City begin life back in the Southern League on Saturday with a trip to face Sholing at he Mortgage Decisions Stadium.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

This is City’s first visit to the Mortgage Decisions Stadium. The only previous meeting between the clubs was in the FA Trophy in December 2019. Sholing, who reached Wembley in 2014 to win the FA Vase, had beaten Bristol Manor Farm, Marlow, Barton Rovers and Paulton Rovers to earn first round tie at Twerton Park. The two-division gap was too hard to bridge as goals from Ryan Brunt and Andy Watkins ended their record-breaking run on a freezing Tuesday night.

TRIVIA

  • Sholing’s replay success at Paulton was the last time they won an FA Trophy tie. In each of the last six seasons they’ve exited at the first hurdle.
  • City’s FA Trophy journey in 2019/20 ended in the next round to eventual finalists Concord Rangers after a replay – their last replay in the competition.
  • While the clubs have never met in the league, several of Sholing’s squad have faced Bath City before. Jack Turner, Sam Magri, Olly Pendlebury, Jake McCarthy, Tommy Willard, Michael Folivi and Tommy-Lee Higgs could all figure having played against the Romans in the last couple of seasons.
  • This will be City’s first Southern League match since 28 April 2007, a 6-0 win over Rugby Town having clinched the title a week previous at Yate Town, the last time they played away at this level.

FORM

  • Sholing finished three points outside the play-offs last season – their highest ever finish. They ended pre-season with a 1-0 defeat at AFC Totton last Saturday in the Mally’s Cup.
  • Bath City were also in Hampshire last weekend, ending the summer with a 3-0 loss at Farnborough in the Ted Pearce Memorial Cup.
