Fletcher strike continues fine start to season

A great Alex Fletcher strike just after half-time, combined with a first 2022/23 clean sheet, was enough to continue City’s impressive start to the season at Farnborough this afternoon. An even first half saw the two sides probing for a breakthrough but chances were at a premium at both ends of the pitch. However, within five minutes of the restart the deadlock was broken when the ball found Fletcher and he unleased a stunning 20-yard effort into the top corner. The game opened up after this and Joe Wright had to be alert to keep out Deering’s effort on 55 minutes. Ten minutes later City lost captain Kieran Parselle’s with a facial injury but despite that setback the Romans began to press for a second goal. Dyer’s header dropped narrowly wide then Boro keeper Turner did brilliantly to keep out Cody Cooke’s close range effort. Dan Hayfield and Fletcher also went close to increasing City advantage before the hosts rallied in the closing stages. Despite nearly eight minutes stoppage time City stood firm to secure a third win of the season ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s home match with Slough Town.
