City snatch festive gift back with late double strike

Just when it looked like City had gift-wrapped Eastbourne Borough a Christmas present of three points Tom Smith and Alex Hartridge popped up with late goals to snatch victory at a wet and windy Priory Lane this afternoon. The home side had lead from the 40th minute when a dreadful mix-up between Ryan Clarke and Dan Ball allowed Luer to divert the ball home. The goal was in keeping when the quality of the game up to that point but City responded well with Andy Watkins hitting the post and Dan Bowry seeing a marginal offside decision rule out his header before the break. Ryan Brunt then spurned a good chance early into the second half as City stepped up their game but despite this improvement it looked as if The Sports would hold out for the win. Then with two minutes left the ball dropped to Smith around 30 yards out and he unleashed a stunning dipping volley past Hadler. And two minutes into added time it got even better for the Romans when Joe Raynes crossed for Hartridge to glance a header home and send them into the busy Christmas period on a perfect note.
