Over 100 people attended the celebration evening at Twerton Park last Friday and a good time was had by all, including over 20 players from the Championship side of 1977/78 season and FA Cup heroes from the past. Dave Phillips put together a host of FA Cup goals and highlights which brought back many happy memories. The picture above shows (l to r) Martyn Rogers, Nigel Ryan and Peter Higgins from the Championship side re-telling stories from that era. An excellent meal was provided by Mrs B’s Caring Catering and the entertainment from Wayne the Weird was most entertaining. Our thanks to everyone who supported the event which raised welcome funds for the club.
Richard Bourne, who was part of the Championship side, emailed:
Thank you very much for inviting me to the 40th Anniversary of winning the league. It was a fantastic evening, and all the guys that were there from that team had a wonderful time. It was great to see some that I hadn’t seen for 39 years!! and the team spirit that helped us win the league was instantly back as soon as we all met up. Well done to you also, a lot of work and organising must have gone into that evening. Once again, thank you.
