Match Preview – Maidstone United (H) – Enterprise National League South

City bring their 2025/26 season to a close on Saturday with Maidstone United the visitors to Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park. Please note the earlier kick-off time of 12.30pm.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Most of the fixtures between the two took place across the 1970s and 1980s. The Stones were pretty formidable – losing just one of their first 20 contests against Bath City – during a golden era which eventually saw them promoted to the Football League before reforming in 1992. The two were reunited in the 2015/16 season and United continued their stranglehold over the Romans with a double over them that term. Since then it’s been more evenly matched though the Stones have won the last two, both at the Gallagher Stadium. December’s success was aided by a red card for City goalkeeper Charlie Binns for an adjudged foul on ex-Roman Deon Moore, a decision later rescinded.

TRIVIA

  • Saturday will be City’s earliest kick-off for a league fixture since December 2022, when the away match at Dartford was brought forward to 12.30pm to prevent clashing with England’s World Cup quarter-final against France.
  • This is the first time since 2023 that City have concluded a league campaign at home. They’ve only lost one of their last 12 final league matches of a campaign, a 2-0 defeat at Aveley in 2024.
  • If Maidstone fail to reach the play-offs, it will be George Elokobi’s final match in charge. It’s the second season running the Romans have faced a side on the last day who have announced a managerial departure in advance – Danny Scopes left Aveley after a 2-2 draw with City last term.
  • Bath City are two goals off scoring 950 in National League South excluding play-offs.

FORM

  • Bath City have won their last two home NLS games and three of their last five in the league.
  • Maidstone United are unbeaten in five. A win on Saturday might be enough to clinch a play-off spot depending on other results.
