Wasteful City slip to narrow Hemel defeat

A goal late in the first half saw City suffer a 1-0 defeat against Hemel Hempstead Town at Vauxhall Road this evening, despite the Romans having enough chances to get at least a draw from the game. City controlled the opening exchanges but couldn’t convert this into clear cut openings and as the half progressed the hosts began to pose a greater attacking threat. Seven minutes before the break the ball fell to Romain and he slotted it past Josh Gould. Just before the interval Rex Mannings broke clear but saw his shot saved by Saunders and early in the second half Elliott Frear crashed a shot against the bar. This turned out to be as close as they would come to an equaliser, although Tom Smith had the ball in the net only for an offside flag to halt the celebrations, as the Tudors held on for a fortunate three points.
