Slough Town Match Preview

City will be hoping to build on Saturday’s battling performance at Welling when they host Slough Town on Tuesday for what will be the only scheduled evening match at Twerton Park this season.

The visitors have had an up and down season. Following a very slow start they enjoyed a productive Autumn and presently sit in a comfortable 13th position with perhaps an outside chance of qualifying for the play offs.

The Rebels have won three of their last five matches, the most recent being a fine 2-1 victory at Arbour Park against Maidstone on Saturday which completed the double over the title chasing club.

They have also won at Ebbsfleet in the past month but their overall points tally away from home is similar to City’s, the low point being a 6-1 reverse at Chippenham.

This week’s encounter will give Jerry Gill’s team the opportunity to gain revenge for a very poor performance back in October when the 2-0 defeat was followed by some critical comments from the manager.

There should be two familiar faces in our opponents’ line up on Tuesday. Freddie Grant joined Slough in the summer after making six starts in the stripes last year and in goal should be Jon North who faced us many times for Wealdstone, including the play off eliminator in 2019 when of course he unfortunately ended up in hospital.

This will be The Rebels’ 7th visit to Twerton for a league match, the last being just over three years ago.

Home advantage certainly counts in these fixtures with City never winning in Berkshire and Slough only winning the three points on the one occasion at Twerton.

Older supporters always associate the visit of The Rebels with the tough encounter played here just over 30 years ago, best remembered for the legendary run down the Popular Side touchline by Adie Mings and his warm words for the opponents in his post-match interview!

Tickets for the match can be bought in advance from the Club’s website.
