Three goals in the first 17 minutes helped Bath City Women to a comfortable win at Portishead Ladies Reserves.

It maintained City’s 100% away winning record in the league, but came at a cost as Maddy Brown was forced off with a fractured ankle.

Brown was involved in City’s opener. She played the ball around the corner to Burridge who darted down the left in a tussle with Iola Avery. The City player managed to rob Avery near the byline and slotted past Katelyn Darbon at the near post.

Ella Howes nodded Kady Burgess’ cross against the outside of the post for Portishead before City extended their lead with a stunning second.

A half clearance from the home backline landed to Burridge some 35 yards out and she took a touch before executing a magnificent looping effort over Darbon.

Caisey Kelly miscued wide from the restart and Sylvie Charlton scooped over as the hosts’ profligacy haunted them.

Tara Taylor’s incisive through ball found Adella Clarke clear on goal. Darbon bravely denied her, but Tia Mahadevan was quickest to the loose ball to coolly roll home from the edge of the box.

Maisy Ruffle fired over the angle of post and crossbar for the shellshocked home side.

Beth Edwards and Mahadevan both had efforts from distance after the break in a half disrupted by two lengthy injury stoppages just past the hour mark, eventually resulting in 10 minutes added time.

Howes landed awkwardly from a Lara Allan challenge and damaged her knee, and Brown’s fall two minutes later under pressure from Avery left the left-sided player in serious pain.

Both stoppages clearly affected both teams, understandably distracted by a teammate’s welfare. Amy Key was well denied one-on-one by Darbon and Lucy Clay batted out Romilly Bowden’s 20-yarder.

She claimed a third clean sheet in all competitions this season as the Romans made it back-to-back wins ahead of their 100th competitive fixture next week – a home meeting with Stockwood Wanderers.
