City make their penultimate pre-season outing tomorrow evening with the short trip to Wiltshire to face Melksham Town at the Meads of Melksham Community Football Stadium

The two clubs haven’t met competitively since September 1927, but have been paired eight times in pre-season. This is City’s third visit to Meads of Melksham Community Football Stadium, their last was almost two years ago to the day. Goals from Nick Grimes, Alex Fisher (listed as a trialist) and Louis Sweeten earned a victory in Wiltshire.

TRIVIA

  • All eight contests have taken place in Melksham, the first in 1977. The first six were at the Conigre before their move nearly 10 years ago.
  • Stuart Fleetwood briefly managed Melksham last season. He made 12 appearances and scored one goal for City in the 2016/17 campaign.
  • Scott Bartlett was in attendance for Town’s pre-season win over Yate on Friday night.
  • Their scorers were Kitan Jaiyeoba and James Ollis. Jaiyeoba was a trialist for City in 2021, Ollis made seven outings for the Romans having progressed through the academy.

  • Melksham have won their last two friendlies after losing the Ian Monnery Trophy at Chippenham on 18 July.
  • City picked up a creditable draw with Newport County on Saturday thanks to goals from Dan Greenslade and Alex Fisher.
