In form Saints enjoy Twerton Park win

A goal in each half from Shaun Jeffers saw in form St Albans City overcome City at Twerton Park this afternoon. After the FA Cup disappointment last Saturday it was an improved performance by the Romans but they couldn’t prevent the visitors heading back East with the points. The outcome could have been different had City been awarded a penalty on 19 minutes when Cody Cooke broke clear and appeared to be tripped by keeper Johnson after knocking the ball past him. However, the referee failed to point to the spot and St Albans took advantage of this good fortune seven minutes before the interval when a long ball was flicked on to Jeffers to slide the ball past Ryan Clarke. The second half saw City begin to get on top, Lloyd James curling a 57th minute shot narrowly wide almost levelling the scores. The Saints were reduced to rare forays forward but on 77 minutes they doubled their lead from one such break, Jeffers netting his 14th goal of the season with another clinical finish. There was no way back into the game after this, although Tom Smith was only denied a goal two minute from time by a great Mukena block, and City now face two testing away trips at Slough Town and Ebbsfleet United to try to get their season back on track.
