Final League Match – Oxford City – Home

City close out the league season with a home game as they welcome Oxford City to Twerton Park, looking to end the campaign on a high.

The visitors come into this fixture having already secured their place in the play-offs, but need a win to ensure third. Their 1-1 draw at home to Havant & Waterlooville ended their hopes of breaking into the top two, but it has been another great season for the Hoops, with another opportunity to gain promotion following their fifth place finish last year. If they succeed, it will be their first experience of National League football.

Despite their high position, they endured a mixed start to the season, starting with four wins, three draws and four defeats. However, they have only lost five times in the league since, their total of nine defeats only bettered by champions Ebbsfleet. Eighty-two goals scored is the joint third best in the division, and they have failed to score in just seven of their games. They did fall 4-1 in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup Final to Thame United 11 days ago, albeit with a weakened side as they focused on their promotion push.

Midweek saw the Romans take a 2-1 victory in their final away game at Hungerford Town with a brace from Scott Wilson enough to see off their opponents. The result also confirmed a top half finish for the club in what has been a long and testing season, a great achievement considering all the injuries the squad has had to endure. They will want to continue this good momentum into Saturday’s game and celebrate with the home fans once more.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at Twerton this Saturday to get behind the team for the final time in 2022/23!
