Downend Flyers (0) 1 Bath City Women (2) – Sunday 17 May 2026 – Shield Services Group SW Regional WFL Div 1N – Pomphrey Hill
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City Women concluded their 2025/26 campaign with a win at Downend Flyers.
Clodagh Moran and Rosie Burridge were on target as the Romans ended the season with three victories in four.
Downend made an energetic start at Pomphrey Hill without testing Lucy Clay, before City should have broken the deadlock on nine minutes.
Amy Key’s corner glanced off Adella Clarke and hit the inside of the box, with Clarke and Abby Gray failing to apply a telling touch in the ensuing scramble.
City took the lead on 28 minutes. Jess Evans played the ball inside to Moran, who made space before her thunderous strike from 30 yards was too powerful for Eve Herriman, the keeper’s attempted parry not enough.
Downend nearly levelled swiftly when Nerys Akers hooked a cross over Clay forcing Gray to clear from the line with Yasmine West in close quarters.
The lead was doubled just before half-time when Tara Taylor kept her balance before sliding through to Burridge, who went on a rampaging run from centre-back, shrugging off Harriet Giles and casually rolling the ball into the bottom corner.
The second half had a typical end of season feel with both clubs only having pride to play for.
Neither goalkeeper was significantly tested until the final few minutes, when Flyers pulled one back.
Orla Montgomery swung a free-kick in from the right and Annabel Bean neatly planted a header into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
There were no further scares for depleted City, who were down to just 12 available players, as Matt Abreu’s side calmly saw out the closing stages.
It completed a league double over Downend and saw them finish in 6th, three places and 17 points higher than the Bristol outfit.
