City make comfortable progress to County Cup quarter-finals
Goals from Alex Fisher, Harry Williams and Sev Streczen saw City ease past Bridgwater United this evening in the Francis Hillier Premier Cup 2nd Round at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park.
From their first attack on seven minutes City took the lead, Pedro Elawar crossing for Fisher to head past Saunders from eight yards out. Streczen and Sam Stirling fired shots narrowly wide as City pushed for a second goal. The half ended with Fisher almost repeating his earlier effort, this time Saunders doing well to keep out the header.
In to the second half and on the hour mark City doubled their lead. Streczen broke forward down the left and his cross was steered home from seven yards by Academy striker Williams. This gave City breathing space and allowed them to introduce three more youngsters off the bench. And they made the game safe on 75 minutes when one such player Oliver Montgomery slipped the ball through for Streczen to run clear and roll it past Saunders. Four minutes later keeper Theo Wynne produced a great save but from the resultant corner Lawrence headed home to make it 3-1. There was no late drama though as City comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure their quarter-final place.
