City left Ruffled in surprise home defeat

Bath City Women suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat against Portishead Ladies Reserves at Twerton Park this afternoon. The visitors came into the game with just two wins and sitting second bottom in the Somerset County WFL Division 1 table but, after withstanding early City pressure, a double from Ruffle in the closing 20 minutes gave them a deserved win. The game looked to be going to form as City pushed forward during the opening 20 minutes but they failed to trouble McGill in the North Bristol side’s goal. And Portishead grew in confidence as the half progressed to make for a more even game. The closing stages of the half saw McGill twice gather shots from Tara Taylor whilst Sophie Campbell saved well from Moorehead. The second half saw both sides struggle to gain the upper hand but it was Portishead who looked the likelier scorers and with 18 minutes left Ruffle found space in the box to fire past Campbell. And three minutes from time Ruffle grabbed a second goal to secure the three points.
