City cruise to comfortable Somerset Premier Cup win over Wincanton

Goals from Sev Streczen, Scott Wilson and Alex Fisher saw City ease into the 2nd Round of the Francis Hillier Premier Cup with a 3-0 win over Wincanton Town at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park this evening.

All three goals came in the opening half an hour. Just two minutes in Streczen collected a pass from Wilson and fired a low left-foot shot into the net. Enzio Boldewijn’s 16th minute header was ruled out for a push on a defender. Six minutes later Wilson ran onto a Fisher flick before being brought down by keeper Hind. He got up to convert the penalty for his fourth goal of the season. And three minutes later it was 3-0 as Wilson provided a second assist, crossing for Fisher to dispatch a great volley from 15 yards. Despite several more promising positions City couldn’t add to the scoring before the interval.

The one-sided nature of the game continued after the break but, to their credit, Wincanton defended resolutely. Streczen saw his 52nd minute shot blocked by a defender, with Wilson’s follow-up effort producing a fine save from Hind. Streczen then shot straight at the keeper before substitute Harry Williams had an effort blocked. City had the ball in the net on 63 minutes but Fisher’s neat finish was ruled out for offside. City introduced a number of academy players from the bench and despite further chances couldn’t increase their lead. In the end the closest they came was five minutes from time when a mix-up at the back saw Hind clear the ball off the line just ahead of the incoming Callum Kirkman.
