Brunt on the double to set City on way to taming Tigers

A Ryan Brunt brace plus a second half strike from Ross Stearn saw City comfortably deal with Gloucester City at Twerton Park this evening to secure a second win of this fledgling 2018-19 season. It took just three minutes for the big striker to open his account for the Romans, powerfully heading Anthony Straker’s cross into the roof of the net. And on 20 minutes he struck again, running on to James Morton’s pass to shoot low past Yates into the corner of the net. It took a great Ryan Clarke save from a point-blank shot three minutes later to maintain this advantage but it was City who could have added to the scoring before the break as they continued to control the game. Little changed after the interval and Brunt came within inches of completing his hat-trick on 50 minutes, glancing a header just wide. Yates then saved another Brunt effort but on 62 minutes he could do nothing to prevent Stearn lashing a shot past him to make it 3-0. City appeared content now to see out the rest of the game, keeping the Tigers at bay with little trouble, whilst still creating several further half-chances.
