Bristol City Women to make Twerton Park New Home

Bristol City Women will embark on a new era in the 2020/21 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season as Twerton Park and Ashton Gate Stadium become their new home venues.

Twerton Park, the base for Vanarama National League Bath City will be the primary matchday venue for Tanya Oxtoby’s side, while the Robins will also play a number of games in BS3 to continue the club’s commitment to showcase Barclays FAWSL football in world-class facilities.

The switch in home venue enables attendances to increase further and, subject to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, present even more supporters with the exciting opportunity to watch the Robins squad, which is filled with internationals and exciting young talent from across the world.

The move to Twerton Park will provide supporters with upgraded facilities creating a better matchday experience with more food and drink options, better transport links, as well as greater seating access.

The 2020/21 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season kicks off on weekend of the 5/6th September with the fixtures scheduled for announcement this Friday (August 7th) at 11am.

City Head of Women’s Football Lee Billiard said: “We’re excited about our move to Twerton Park, it allows us to enhance the matchday experience for our players and fans along with opening up the club to a new market. When it is safe for our fans to attend games, we hope our Bristol-based supporters follow the club to Twerton Park and we hope bringing top-level women’s football with world-class players to the city of Bath will excite the local community and expand on our current fanbase and partnerships. Finally, thank you to SGS College Filton for providing us with a fantastic home that has provided us with so many memories over the years. SGS College is a great partner and venue we will continue to use for our other programmes.”

City Manager Tanya Oxtoby added: “We’re looking forward to getting the season underway in our new home and welcoming the fans in when it is safe to do so. This is the next step for us a club as we look to progress both on and off the pitch with Twerton Park providing us with a new matchday environment that will inspire the group to continue their development and excel on the pitch. Our games at Ashton Gate Stadium last season saw a fantastic turn out of supporters and we’re delighted that we will have more opportunities to play there throughout the upcoming season and showcase Barclays FAWSL football on the biggest stage.”

Bath City Football Chairman Paul Williams said: “We look forward to welcoming Bristol City Women and we hope their upcoming season here will be successful. Women’s football is growing at a rapid rate and the Barclays FA Women’s Super League is one of the most competitive women’s leagues in the world and we see this as a fantastic opportunity to welcome more fans to Twerton Park.”
