Berrow Ladies (0) 0 Bath City Development Women (2) 3 – Sunday 10 September 2023 – Somerset County WFL Division Two North
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City’s Development side moved to top of Somerset County Women’s League Division Two North with an accomplished performance at Berrow.
Goals from Chelsea Pearce, Tanea Wright and Lauren Sullivan-Bruce gave the Romans a deserved success at Red Road Playing Fields.
With the first team without a fixture, Matt Abreu was in attendance and would have been encouraged by the display, making it back-to-back victories under Tracey Hartnett.
City started on the front foot, forcing a succession of early corners and converted from their fourth on seven minutes.
Ali Diegutis played it short to Wright whose precise delivery was neatly headed home by Pearce from six yards.
A brilliant one-touch passing move made it 2-0 just before the break. Begun by Elissa Blake’s driving run, Koren Jones’ final ball was well left by Esme Fensome for Wright to calmly roll pass Amanda Hubbard from just inside the penalty area.
Berrow pushed for a way back after the break and a necessary block from Sophie Dooling denied Maddy Hellard when a good move set the hosts away.
Chloe Williams also shot narrowly off target before their hopes of a comeback were extinguished.
A lopsided backline left Sullivan-Bruce onside and in room in the box where she finished tidily into the bottom left corner.
Wright’s effort screamed narrowly over and brave goalkeeping from Hubbard denied Blake in added time.
Substitute goalkeeper Emillia Midwinter was given a 15-minute debut cameo for Lu Thornton and she was well protected as Berrow ran out of energy on a baking hot afternoon in North Somerset as a solid team display got its rewards for the visitors.
