Match Report by Mark Stillman.

Bath City Women recovered from their midweek cup final heartbreak to ease to victory over struggling Stockwood Wanderers.

Goals from in-form Beth Edwards and Poppy Spratt ended five matches without a win.

In unfamiliar red at Twerton, City started well with Spratt slashing over after Bex Fry’s cross was gloved away by stand-in Stockwood keeper Charley Friend.

Jess Evans rolled wide from an acute angle after intercepting Friend’s attempted throw out before City took a deserved lead just before the half hour.

Katie Davies’ fine crossfield ball was collected by Jasmine Rennie, who skipped around Alexandra Andrade with ease.

She pulled it back to Edwards who had time to control and pick her spot in the bottom right corner.

Lola Bassett sent two free-kicks narrowly off target for the visitors before the break.

Edwards could have had a second soon after half-time. Emma Vilday’s ball over the top initially saw Tara Taylor through before Bassett robbed her, but the striker struck the loose ball too close to Friend.

A second arrived on 58 minutes. Rennie again found space past Andrade and her pinpoint cross was neatly headed home by Spratt from six yards.

Adella Clarke prodded into the side-netting after Jemima Seagrave’s back-pass was intercepted by the striker, and Friend saved well at her near post from Spratt.

Stockwood finished the game with nine players due to injuries as they failed to build on Thursday’s stunning win over leaders Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies.

With the visitors’ tiredness understandably creeping in, Lucy Clay was seldom tested which allowed City to close out their home campaign comfortably.
