Francis Hillier Premier Cup 1st Round – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park

Match Report by Mark Stillman.

Scott Wilson scored one and set up two others as Bath City eased to Francis Hillier Premier Cup success over Wincanton Town.

Despite making nine changes from Saturday’s win over Chippenham, Scott Bartlett fielded a strong team and his side got off to a flier with an opening goal after around 100 seconds.

Wilson received the ball from Matt Bowman and played inside to Seweryn Streczen, whose angled drive zipped straight through two defenders and goalkeeper Dale Hind to open his account for the club.

Enzio Boldewijn had a header disallowed for a foul before a second arrived midway through the half.

Wilson played a one-two with Alex Fisher and darted clear, only to be upended by Hind’s trailing arm for a penalty.

The striker dusted himself down and sent Hind the wrong way from the spot.

Fisher headed against the outside of the post from Boldewijn’s delivery, but he made the game safe inside 25 minutes with a lovely goal.

Dan Greenslade’s perfectly weighted ball over the Wincanton defence found Wilson in room down the left and his first time centre was met on the volley by Fisher, who wrapped his left foot around the ball to sweep past Hind from 12 yards.

A flurry of substitutions in the second half saw momentum largely stalled, as City gave three academy players a debut.

Hind denied Wilson with his legs, Jamie Irwin’s inspired block denied youngster Harry Williams and Anele Ncube nearly but through his own net under pressure from Bowman with Hind scrambling back to clear.

Streczen hobbled off near the end in the only sour note of an accomplished evening where both teams can take credit – City for their professionalism and Wincanton for their solid second half efforts to prevent a larger defeat.
