Bath City (1) 3 Bridgwater United (0) 1 – Tuesday 27 October 2026 – Francis Hillier Premier Cup – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City made the two division gap tell with a comfortable Francis Hillier Premier Cup success over Bridgwater United.
Goals from Alex Fisher, Harry Williams and Seweryn Streczen saw Scott Bartlett’s men make it nine outright wins from 11, and 23 from 25 county cup successes against Western League opposition.
Williams’ goal was his first for the club as he was one of five academy graduates to start, with a further three on the bench.
Jason Quick headed a consolation for United as they exited the competition at Twerton for a second successive season.
City took the lead with a well-worked goal on seven minutes.
Beginning with a throw on the left, a six-pass move saw Sam Stirling find Pedro Elawar on the right.
He accelerated past Ryan Crawford with ease and saw his near post delivery cleverly nodded in by Fisher at the near post for his fourth goal of the season.
Streczen nearly scored a replica of his goal in the previous round against Wincanton Town when he cut in from the left and shot low from the edge of the box, but it flew past Ollie Saunders’ right post when he appeared to have it covered.
The strong start continued when Michael Duffy gifted the ball to Matt Bowman 30 yards out and his zipping drive was well turned away by Saunders for a corner.
Stirling’s sweet strike from the edge of the box curved inches off target as City continued to dominate against the high flying Step 5 side, leaving Romans goalkeeper Theo Wynne a near spectator on his first team debut.
It should have been 2-0 within three minutes of the second half.
Bowman and Fisher combined to find Elawar on the right, and his pinpoint delivery to the back post was somehow scuffed wide by Streczen from two yards out.
Quick threw himself in front of Elawar’s strike as Bridgwater remained pinned back.
A second goal predictably arrived on the hour mark.
Jack Batten’s well measured ball from the back was collected by Streczen, who made half a yard and drilled a low ball across the penalty box.
Williams reacted the quickest, sliding in from eight yards to slam home his first goal for the Stripes.
Streczen’s quest for a goal himself continued, hitting the outside of the post when Dan Greenslade’s free-kick wasn’t fully cleared while Bridgwater appealed for a foul in the build-up.
The lively winger held off a challenge of Jake Llewellyn and Williams let the ball run for Bodie Reed, who blasted wide from an acute angle.
The Romans were gifted a third on 76 minutes.
Toby Lawrence’s terrible ball from the back was easily intercepted by Reed, who was clattered by Freddie Cox when playing through to Streczen.
Referee Bromham let the game continue and Streczen took full advantage, running through on goal and calmly rolling past Saunders.
Wynne did well to claw away Harry Horton’s long-ranger but his bid for a clean sheet ended from the resulting corner.
Horton’s well-floated delivery saw Quick arrive unchallenged to head home from close range.
City missed a gilt-edged opportunity to make it four in the dying stages.
After Bridgwater substitute Will Marsh was dispossessed from Blake Bennett, the Romans swarmed forward in numbers in a 3v1 with the visitors’ tiring players trying to track back.
Streczen put it on a plate for Oliver Montgomery but he shot early and too close to Saunders, who batted away with ease.
It was a rare blip on a promising night from City’s youngsters, who blended in well with the experienced campaigners to ease progress to the quarter finals.
