Bath City (1) 1 Hanworth Villa (0) 0 – Saturday 15 August 2026
Southern League Premier South – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Ollie Chamberlain’s first goal for Bath City was enough as they edged out Hanworth Villa.
The midfielder steered home from close range to extend City’s unbeaten start and end Hanworth’s.
The Romans lost Harrison Minturn to injury in the warm-up meaning a late call-up for Jack Batten to make his first start under Scott Bartlett.
James Morton also made his third debut for the club and slotted in well as City made it seven points from nine, their best start to a season since 2019/20.
The early stages saw neither side gain an upper hand in searing conditions, and a much-needed hydration break benefitted the Romans more.
Scott Wilson stung the gloves of Tyla Dickinson with the first shot on target and their second resulted in an opening goal.
Joe Raynes fed the ball down the line to Harry Parsons, who found a lot of room with the away defence hesitating.
His centre missed Wilson but Chamberlain was perfectly placed to finish from six yards.
Harvey Wiles-Richards was tested for the first time just before half-time when he superbly clawed Toure Williams’ 20 yarder over the angle of post and crossbar.
City started the second half brightly with Wilson snuffed out at the near post after Enzio Boldewijn and Joe Raynes combined down the right.
But they had a few close shaves at the other end as Villa stepped up the intensity.
Gio McGregor curled wastefully over before Haydon Vaughan’s piledriver from 25 yards thudded back off the post with Wiles-Richards standstill.
Josh Casey drilled inches wide after City failed to clear a corner before a Romans counter saw subs Matt Bowman and Seweryn Streczen combine, the latter forcing Dickinson into a smart gather.
Hanworth’s final telling opportunity saw Michael Harding’s shot on the turn hit the well-placed Batten on the line as Scott Bartlett’s men saw the game out for a first clean sheet this term.
