Bath City (0) 1 Plymouth Parkway (1) 1 – Tuesday 11 August 2026
Southern League Premier South – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Former Plymouth Argyle forward Reuben Reid smashed home a second half leveller as Bath City were held by Plymouth Parkway.
Mikey Williams curled the visitors into a first half lead to leave the Romans stunned.
But the half-time introduction of Seweryn Streczen added more impetus to Scott Bartlett’s men who levelled soon after the restart.
Despite a plethora of corners they couldn’t force a winner as they were forced to settle for four points from the opening two games.
City made three changes from Saturday’s 2-1 win at Sholing. Donovan Wilson missed out through injury, cousin Scott Wilson dropped to the bench with Matt Bowman, while Ollie Chamberlain, Reid and Owen Windsor were in from the off, the latter back from suspension.
Parkway, fresh from a 7-0 win over Bracknell Town, faced more defensive worries in the opening 20 minutes at Twerton than their stroll three days previous.
On the quarter hour, Enzio Boldewijn skipped away from Carlo Garside and laid it off for Windsor, whose first-time effort across Aaron Dearing was kept out by the keeper’s legs.
The keeper was kept busy again four minutes later. Boldewijn was the architect once more, dinking a ball to the far post which was met by Jordan Tillson’s diving header but Dearing threw himself in the way to parry before Joe Raynes side-footed the follow-up wide from 18 yards.
Callum Hall blasted into the side-netting for Parkway after Raynes cheaply gave the ball away on halfway and some more suspect defending helped the visitors to a 28th minute lead.
Rio Garside had time from a throw-in to play inside to Williams, who had advanced unopposed from centre-back to side-step around Ollie Chamberlain with ease and perfectly curl into the bottom left corner from 16 yards.
It took him to 97 goals in Parkway colours and their celebrations were nearly further increased a couple of minutes later.
Having scored four from set-pieces at the weekend, another dangerous Rio Garside delivery caused issues as his near post corner was headed down and wide from Taylor Scarff from close range when he should have tested Harvey Wiles-Richards.
Hall’s effort whistled wide for the confident Devonians, who remained concentrated as Dearing kept out Raynes’ 25-yarder which bounced just in front of him.
Manager Bartlett rolled the dice at the break, withdrawing Windsor for 17-year-old Streczen for his home league debut.
He had a minor part in the equaliser two-and-a-half minutes after half-time.
The left-sided player laid off for Kieran Parselle, whose hopeful ball forward was poorly dealt with by Scarff.
His attempted header went awry and Reid sniffed an opening, gobbling up the loose ball inside the box before turning and hammering into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
Aged 38 and 14 days, it made him City’s oldest goalscorer since Alex Russell netted past future England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in a 2-2 draw at Darlington in April 2012.
The decibel levels rose at a balmy Twerton as the hosts started asking more questions of a Parkway backline, who had conceded 79 in the league last term despite a top half finish.
Parselle lashed over from distance and headed Streczen’s corner wide.
Saturday’s matchwinner Harry Parsons squandered a chance to be a hero two games running.
Harrison Minturn’s lofted ball was helpfully headed inside by Reid to the onrushing attacker, but with Dearing advancing he put too much lift on the ball and lobbed over.
With 15 minutes remaining, Plymouth became desperately close to regaining the lead when Rio Garside’s measured free-kick was met by the head of Scarff, who nodded against the top of the bar with Wiles-Richards beaten.
Streczen was desperately close to marking a fine cameo with a goal.
Minturn’s well-flighted ball saw him evade Jensen Ireland with the wing-back appealing for offside.
Having cut inside onto his right foot, Streczen fizzed just wide of the far post to Dearing’s relief.
The keeper reacted sharply to Parselle’s first time effort when Raynes’ ball picked him out at the back post.
Dearing was lucky to keep his side in it when Streczen’s free-kick pinballed inside the box, with the final touch appearing to hit the grounded Ryan Brett forcing the stopper to instinctively glove over.
Ireland flicked Ollie Tomlinson’s header off the line and the away side’s sterling defensive work nearly paid off big time as they came close to a dramatic winner.
Minturn’s wayward backpass was nearly latched onto by Will Sullivan, who was kept out by the alert Wiles-Richards.
The resulting corner came to nothing to City’s relief as they had to settle for a point despite their second half dominance against Karl Curtis’ well-organised outfit.
