Match Report by Henry Burridge.

Bath City ended a 14-game winless run with an A4 derby win against neighbours Chippenham Town.

The game’s only goal came in the 94th minute from Scott Wilson, but that moment wouldn’t have been possible without a fine goalkeeping performance from Charlie Binns.

City had to withstand 30 minutes of Chippenham pressure from the first whistle, but visibly grew in confidence the longer the contest went on.

The visitors still created more of the chances, only to find Romans stopper Binns in top form, including a string of saves in the second half.

And in the end Wilson won it for the hosts – having struck the upright only minutes before – in the depths of stoppage-time.

Binns was called into action within four minutes, Chippenham skipper Luke Haines hitting a deflected shot the keeper reacted to well at his near post.

City’s first effort from Owen Windsor was blocked, as the visitors dominated possession yet still looked tentative around the penalty area.

Anointed Chukwu drew another save from Binns, the hosts getting bodies back to prevent Harry Parsons scoring in the short scramble that followed.

Former City loanee Tom Mehew also saw an effort tipped over from just under the crossbar by Binns, before Chippenham’s monopoly on possession gradually wore away.

Jordan Alves curled a shot well wide for the Romans, while Donovan Wilson was unlucky not to take a clean touch on a tricky, swirling clearance that landed in the box.

Bluebirds midfielder Caine Bradbury then teed up two of his colleagues, Parsons volleying over and Chukwu unable to scramble the ball over the line.

City’s best effort of the half came at the last with Joe Raynes catching a sweet 30-yard shot that flew into the gloves of Will Henry.

The second period began better for the hosts, Donovan Wilson rolling a low shot wide and Jaiden Putman firing across goal.

At the other end, Bradbury and Parsons had shots blocked in quick succession.

Binns also had to palm away a low cross from Sol Wanjau-Smith, with Bradbury driving his follow-up into the side netting.

An Alves free-kick took a double deflection that forced Henry into a sharp near-post save, before Binns made a trio of significant stops.

The first saw Chukwu played through one-on-one, but Binns read the striker’s attempt to finish through his legs.

Binns then had to push Billy Phillips’ shot over and flew across goal to keep out Haines’ header from the resulting corner.

The two sides traded tame efforts until Scott Wilson got his first opportunity to become the matchwinner. Played in behind by a beautifully weighted through ball from cousin Donovan, he rattled the near post.

In stoppage time, Binns was called into a diving stop from Bradbury, given too much time to line up a 25-yard strike, while Phillips and Sol Wanjau-Smith sent efforts harmlessly off target.

Enough time remained for City to strike the killer blow. Donovan Wilson smartly sent Windsor racing in behind and he dinked a perfect pass into the path of Scott Wilson, who calmly slotted past Henry.
