Four goal Alves takes City up easy Street in big County Cup win

City progressed to the semi-final of the Francis Hillier Premier Cup this afternoon thanks to a 5-0 win over Street at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park, with Jordan Alves netting four of the goals.

He set the Romans on their way to a comfortable afternoon after 15 minutes, collecting the ball midway in the Street half and advancing before driving a low 20-yard shot into the corner of the net. City doubled their lead on the half hour mark when Danny Greenslade’s cross was headed home by Alex Fisher. To their credit the Western League side didn’t roll-over and and it took a smart stop from Charlie Binns to keep out Collins’ deflected 37th minute shot. From the resultant corner they had the ball in the net but an offside flag ruled out Laird’s close range finish. Youth team striker Zion Thompson forced a good save from Kingston as City ended the half back on top.

Street started the second half brightly but couldn’t find a telling final pass or cross and on the hour mark City made it 3-0. Joe Raynes slid the ball through to Thompson and although he shot was blocked he teed up Alves for a simple tap-in from five yards. Alves completed his hat-trick on 74 minutes, twisting and turning in the box before firing under Kingston. And he capped the afternoon in the final minute of stoppage time, bursting into the box before being wiped out by Dickens. He dispatched the penalty kick into the top corner to make it 5-0 and move City into the last four of the competition.
