Fish arrives in the nick of time to land three points for Romans

Super sub Alex Fisher struck within 90 seconds off coming on to the pitch to secure the three points for City against Havant & Waterlooville this evening at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park. With just seven minutes left his bullet header from an Enzio Boldewijn crossed secured a third successive victory to climb to third place in the Southern League Premier South table.

The visitors had belied their lowly league position up to that point, in a game of few clear cut chances, and had looked set to return south with a hard fought point. The first half could be summed by the fact that there was more goalmouth excitement in the one added minute than the previous forty-five. An early shot wide by Reuben Reid and a Boldewijn free-kick that failed to repeat his heroics from the weekend were rare threats from City. Havant had shown even less up front but from the last action of the half City failed to deal with a high ball into the box and Chioma saw his shot deflected against the post by Pedro Elawar.

Matt Bowman’s low shot finally forced a save from either keeper seven minutes after the restart but this was a rare attacking threat from either side. City almost broke the deadlock in fortuitous circumstances on 74 minutes Walsh-Smith diverted the ball against his own post. Havant won a free-kick right on the edge of the City box with ten minutes left but Seager blazed it over the bar and it looked like the game would end goalless. However, Fisher’s introduction a couple of minutes later changed this and City saw out the remaining time with few scares.
