Match Report by Mark Stillman.

Pearl Abboud’s double from the bench saw Bath City Women come from behind against Stockwood Wanderers, marking their 100th competitive game with a 50th win.

Abboud ended up playing nearly the whole game after Jess Evans suffered a dislocated kneecap in the opening seconds, causing her to leave the venue in crutches.

To add insult to injury, Stockwood took a seventh minute lead.

Lucy Clay’s superb save denied Erin Vowles an opener, but from Ruby Ashman’s resulting corner some miscommunication led to the City keeper dropping the ball into her own net.

Adella Clarke’s lofted effort hit the post for City before she claimed her fourth of the season to equalise.

The Stockwood defence failed to clear Brooke Steventon-Smith’s cross and Nell Bloomfield nudged the ball to Clarke, who stabbed past Char Friend from close range.

Abboud twice went close and Friend denied Clarke in the latter stages of the half.

Lily Simmons, formerly of City, was forced to play through the pain barrier after coming off worse from a Lara Allan challenge. With no substitutes available she fought on in a half the Romans began to dominate.

Clarke squandered two glorious openings created by Beth Edwards but the hosts finally found a way through with just over an hour played.

The lively Abboud was caught inches inside the penalty area by Ashman and she confidently wrong-footed Friend with the spot-kick for her first City goal.

Rosie Burridge was sent clean through by Tara Taylor but shot too close to Friend and this looked like it could haunt City as Stockwood nearly snatched a leveller.

Amy McDermott set Simmons away on the right, and her effort flashed just wide of Clay’s far post with the keeper at full stretch.

The win was rubber-stamped in the last minute of the 90.

Taylor’s persistence created room for Steventon-Smith and her cross looped over Friend allowing Abboud to shin home from 10 yards.

It confirmed a third successive victory ahead of next Sunday’s League Cup clash with Wells City.
