City continue to enjoy their away days with Hanwell victory

City made it back-to-back road trip victories this afternoon, returning from West London with the three points from a 2-0 win over Hanwell Town at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium.

The Romans flew out of the blocks and were two goals up with just ten minutes on the clock. Two minutes in Reuben Reid was bundled to the ground 30 yards out and Enzio Boldewijn stepped up to curl home a stunning free-kick. Eight minutes later a great move from deep in their own half saw Pedro Elawar’s cross steered home by Harry Parsons from eight yards to double City’s lead. The game settled down after this frantic start with the hosts seeing considerable possession but rarely troubling City’s backline. A 25th minute Turner free-kick against the outside of the post the closest they came to reducing the deficit. City ended the half back on the front foot and would have gone into the break more than content with their efforts.

The woodwork came to City’s rescue again seven minutes into the second half when Snee’s free-kick from right on the edge of the box flicked off Elawar before crashing against the bar. The Geordies were again pushing forward looking for a way back into the game but City were standing firm. In fact, it was City who were looking the more likely to add to the scoring when they broke forward and Matt Bowman ended one such attack with a shot that was deflected against the bar on 70 minutes. Harrison Minturn and Elawar also had sights of goal that failed to trouble keeper Beasant. The final chance for City saw Alex Fisher direct a free header straight at the keeper but a few minutes later the final whistle signalled a fourth successive away win for Scott Bartlett’s side and move them into a four-way tie for second place in the table.
