Bath City (0) 0 Weymouth (0) 2 – Saturday 5 September 2026 – FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park
Match Report by Henry Burridge.
Bath City slipped out of the FA Cup in the first qualifying round against visiting Weymouth.
The Dorset side, playing a tier below City this term, left Twerton Park victors thanks to two second half goals from Brooklyn Genesini and Tor Swann.
The lacklustre outing was the latest in a series of FA Cup woes for the Romans, who have now failed to reach the first round proper for 15 consecutive seasons.
Weymouth came into the game having won every outing of their season so far, a confidence that showed in the early stages.
They swung in a number of dangerous crosses and corners to put City on the back foot, though the only chance created from them saw Swann head over.
The Romans would find their feet eventually. Their first effort of note came from 40 yards – Callum Wood forcing Weymouth stopper Gez Benfield to push away his speculative shot, before Enzio Boldewijn had him tip another strike over.
A corner then sparked a remarkable goalmouth scramble. Benfield’s drop put the ball at Wilson’s feet, with his blocked shot followed by a melee that somehow didn’t end in a City lead.
The busy Weymouth keeper soon had to paw away a Raynes strike and watched Wilson fire over. Both also hit tame efforts for Benfield to comfortably scoop up.
City were unable to maintain that momentum when the second half began.
The first chance of the half came for Weymouth, as former Roman Mitch Beardmore’s loose touch allowed the defence to get back and block his effort.
The visitors got the opener on the counter from a Romans corner. Swann outpaced Boldewijn down the right flank and crossed for just-introduced sub Genesini – one of two attackers completely unmarked in the box – to head into the far corner.
With 30 minutes to go, Weymouth defended doggedly as City struggled to find openings.
And the visitors could have extended their lead on numerous counters, one of which saw Swann denied by Harvey Wiles-Richards.
At the other end, Pedro Elawar worked Benfield with a fierce strike and Alex Fisher had a shot cleared off the line at another Romans corner.
Wiles-Richards kept City in it again by smothering a Toby Holmes shot at point-blank range following another break from Swann.
The keeper then went upfield for a corner in the final minute of stoppage time – when Weymouth cleared, it presented Swann with an empty net to seal the Terras’ triumph once and for all.
