Tomorrow sees the Romans face a first Somerset derby of the season when they travel to Badgers Hill Stadium to play Frome Town.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

While the clubs have met six times in the last five seasons (five Francis Hillier Premier Cup ties, one FA Cup meeting), this is the first league meeting between the two since 17 March 1906. Described in the Somerset Standard as ‘a pleasant and interesting game’, Frome won 2-1 thanks to goals in each half from Gibbons and Shackleton. Billy Hyman netted City’s consolation in added time but it was too late to prevent a Wiltshire League double for the Robins. The Romans’ most recent competitive visit to Badgers Hill was in March 2023 when a Cody Cooke brace helped secured a spot in the Somerset Premier Cup final. Tom Smith was dismissed in the 2-1 win.

  • Bath City Reserves and Frome Town were also frequent opposition in the Western League. City’s last visit in that division in 2003 was a 3-0 win despite having Sam Allison, now an EFL referee, sent off for violent conduct.
  • While City eased to their biggest win here in 1950, a scoreline they replicated in the same competition five years ago, they exited the competition at this venue in 1984. Frome were then three divisions below Gola League Bath City but won 3-1 with Bertie Allen, formerly of City, scoring twice.
  • Former Bath City midfielder Jon Davies will be unavailable for Frome as he’s serving a three-match ban. Zac Drew, also ex-City, will be available despite a red card at the weekend.

  • Frome, who bounced back to Southern Premier South at the first attempt, ended Chertsey’s unbeaten start on Saturday with a fine 2-1 win. They have three wins and two defeats.
  • Bath City suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday and have eight points from five matches, leaving them one point and four places below the Robins.
