Reds strike in stoppage time to inflict first defeat of season on City

City suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 season this afternoon at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park. The Romans saw a one goal half-time lead evaporate after the break which culminated in Uxbridge grabbing the points with a stoppage-time winner.

No doubt boosted by the news that the proposed takeover of the club was moving forward City produced their best opening 45 minutes of the campaign so far. New signing Pedro Elawar was an regular threat down the right flank and, although the visitors showed brief glimpses of why they also came into the game unbeaten, City deservedly took the lead on 34 minutes. A James Morton corner was headed back by Kieran Parselle for Scott Wilson to hold off his marker before blasting a shot into the net.

Into the second half City continued to look comfortable in the opening exchanges but without threatening a second goal. And the Reds appeared to grow in confidence as the half progressed. They spurned a couple of chances before levelling on 70 minutes. Amartey was given too much space at the back post and his low shot beat Harvey Wiles-Richards at his near post. Ollie Tomlinson headed a corner narrowly wide shortly after this but City were still unable to regain their first half fluency. It looked as if the points would be shared as the game went into stoppage time but Uxbridge had other ideas. McCoy saw his initial shot blocked by Wiles-Richards but the ball fell back to him to square it for Prior-Tack to fire home the winning goal.
