Match Preview – Newport County (H) – Pre-Season Friendly

Bath City play their third and final home friendly of this pre-season against League Two side Newport County this Saturday afternoon.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

All bar four of the 31 competitive games between the two have taken place since the year 2000. City’s maiden visit to Spytty Park was both teams’ first game of the 21st century. Mark Clode netted a late winner, a game where Bobby Zamora made his debut for the Romans.

There have been four friendlies between the clubs including the 1984 contest which was abandoned at half-time due to crowd trouble. The last encounter was in July 2019 which ended 1-1 with Ross Stearn netting for City.

TRIVIA

• Paul Bodin was player manager for the mentioned win over Newport 26 years ago. He was also sold to the Exiles in 1988 for £15,000 from City. He moved on again within two months to Swindon for double the fee.
• Moses Alexander-Walker is still on the books of Newport. He made 12 appearances on loan at Twerton last season.
• Alex Fisher spent the 2021/22 season at Newport, scoring twice in 25 outings.
