Bath City (2) 2 Maidstone United (0) 3 – Saturday 25 April 2026
Enterprise National League South – Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City threw away a 2-0 lead to lose their final match of the 2025/26 season.
Scott Wilson had the hosts two goals up at the break to make him the club’s top league scorer this season.
Maidstone, who needed a win and other results to go their way, stormed back with Jamie Yila, George Fowler and Mark Boruk’s first senior goal sealing a stunning comeback.
The latter’s 96th minute goal wasn’t enough as a draw for Maidenhead took them into the final play-off spot, ending George Elokobi’s tenue as Stones boss on a sad note.
Hopes of a top seven place for the Kent outfit took an immediate setback.
After Brad Ash had already tested Lenny Holden inside 90 seconds, the ball was scrambled away by Taylor Foran for a throw.
Joe Raynes’ delivery was headed out by Hamzad Kargbo straight onto the boot of Wilson, who superbly volleyed home from 20 yards through a crowd of bodies.
The lively start continued with Charlie Binns smartly helping Riley Court’s fierce strike behind at his near post after Kargbo got the better of Kieran Parselle.
Donovan Wilson pulled just wide from Scott Wilson’s lay-off in the fourth standout chance inside nine minutes.
Maidstone’s Jephte Tanga hammered too close to Binns from a tough angle after his tenacity saw him get the better of Raynes.
City lost Donovan Wilson just before half-time with Luke Russe making his own comeback from injury, but it didn’t distract the Romans as they doubled their advantage.
Matt Bowman held off TJ Bramble and slipped it through to Alex Fisher on his left.
His low drive was parried by Holden but fell to Scott Wilson, who emphatically hammered home from a nigh-on identical spot to his first goal.
It was the 950th goal City had scored in National League South excluding play-offs and the 14th in game eight of the Scott Bartlett era, having netted 13 in 16 matches between Boxing Day and his arrival on 27 March.
Dan Greenslade tried his luck direct from a corner soon after half-time but Holden managed to glove it over.
Holden collected Ash’s stinging drive at the second attempt before Fisher pulled up with a hamstring injury.
His reaction of applauding all four sides of the ground while being acknowledged by his teammates suggested it would be the conclusion of his 19-year career, ending on 96 goals from 466 appearances with the last 67 outings for the Stripes.
Binns had largely been a bystander for the second half, but he was caught out with 20 minutes remaining as the visitors pulled one back.
Substitutes Boruk and Yila combined with the latter finding room in the box to place inside Binns’ near post from six yards.
It changed the dynamic of the game. Long-serving midfielder Sam Corne, who snatched an added time leveller at Twerton in November 2024, nodded David Sesay’s cross inches wide before they found a way through with five minutes left.
Court’s corner saw Fowler show terrific close control in the box before lashing left-footed past the unsighted Binns.
And the sustained pressure eventually told as a further corner led to a last gasp winner.
Another Court delivery caused mayhem and, in a scramble, Boruk touched in to put Maidstone ahead and leave their supporters concentrating on matters elsewhere.
While some seemed to believe Hornchurch had taken a lead over Maidenhead it proved a false dawn as the Magpies’ draw was enough, with Maidstone missing out on the top seven on goal difference.
For already relegated City it was a disappointing way to end the campaign, but another performance to suggest that they’ll be a force in the league below if they’re able to replicate similar levels.
