Dorking Wanderers (0) 1 Bath City (1) 3 – Saturday 18 April 2026 – Enterprise National League South – Meadowbank Stadium

Match Report by Mark Stillman.

Already relegated Bath City stunned Dorking Wanderers to collect their first away win of 2026.

Goals from Matt Bowman, Alex Fisher and Donovan Wilson ended 13 games without a victory on the road.

Defeat for the hosts, second going into the game, effectively cost them the league title as they failed to capitalise on Worthing’s loss at Maidstone United.

Brennan Camp’s header wasn’t enough for Marc White’s men, who were regularly frustrated by an inspired Charlie Binns in the City goal.

Binns’ inclusion was a late one as Harvey Wiles-Richards’ late withdrawal gave the 20-year-old a second outing in three days.

He was tested early by Charlie Carter. Camp’s cross from the right was headed out by Kieran Parselle to Carter, who controlled majestically before his quickfire shot on the turn was fisted away by Binns.

Scott Wilson had City’s first opening on 14 minutes. Following an unintentional flicked header inside by George Francomb, Wilson exploited room on the right side of Dorking’s makeshift back four before goalkeeper Harrison Foulkes advanced snuffed him out.

Most of Meadowbank was left silenced as City broke the deadlock six minutes later.

Josh Laqeretabua worked a one-two with Bowman, teeing him up with a deft pass through while Dorking pushed out for offside.

It didn’t work as Bowman cutely poked the ball over the grounded Foulkes for a wonderfully worked goal.

Harry Pinchard struck the outside of the post for Worthing before Jordan Alves placed wide at the other end in a frantic affair.

Sam Pearson, a former City player who’d also worked under Scott Bartlett for two clubs, saw his effort bounce wide in first half added time.

With news of Worthing ahead at Maidstone, Dorking fans decided to lift themselves from their gloom to try and urge their team despite bad news elsewhere.

The players responded. Kai Enslin’s teasing ball saw Carter’s glancing header require sharp reflexes from Binns, who was relived to also see Enslin side-foot into the side-netting after Ollie Tomlinson’s clearing header went awry.

Binns produced arguably the best of his numerous saves on 58 minutes when Pinchard’s corner hit Carter in a crowd of bodies, forcing the City keeper to fling himself to his left to glove away with Paul McCallum sliding the rebound into the side-netting.

City couldn’t deal with the hosts’ next corner as they finally found a leveller.

Pinchard’s delivery saw Camp fend off the attentions of Bowman before delicately flicking a downward header away from Binns for a remarkable 10th goal from defence this season.

By now news had reached Surrey that Worthing were losing, and a win for Dorking would send them joint top on goal difference.

The quest for three points became harder when City stunned the hosts by retaking the lead on 77 minutes.

Francomb’s attempted interception saw him play the ball inside and the alert Scott Wilson beat Camp to it.

He unselfishly squared for the onrushing Fisher who calmly left-footed home from 12 yards for his second goal in two games.

Fisher could have had another almost straight from the restart.

After referee Dan England played a good advantage when Jaiden Putman was wiped out by George Knight, Fisher took over and went to ground under pressure from Camp as he was about to shoot.

Referee England penalised the forward for supposed simulation, much to his combination of anger and bemusement.

The Romans were nearly further irked when within sixty seconds Frank Vincent’s cross from the left saw Enslin’s header expertly tipped over by Binns.

Francomb tried to make amends for his part in City’s second but his goalbound effort was blocked by the inspired Binns’ legs.

The glovesman’s saves kept City ahead, a lead they extended on 84 minutes.

Donovan Wilson played the ball across to Alves, whose attempt clipped the heels of Vincent and landed at Wilson’s feet.

His initial try was charged down by Luke Moore but it was second time lucky as from almost on the penalty spot, Wilson swang his right leg at the ball and watched in glee as it kissed the base of the post on its way in.

It left Foulkes, who won a series of individual awards after the game, helpless. His opposite number continued to put himself in contention for ‘Best opposition goalkeeper’ for Dorking fans as he threw himself in the way of Carter’s goalbound effort, this after McCallum had wastefully headed Enslin’s cross wide.

While the result won’t change the outcome of City’s confirmed relegation, the manner of success left their 74 travelling fans encouraged as a third win in five games has given them something to cheer about in the final few weeks of an otherwise troubling campaign.
