Flying start by Bitton ends City’s hopes of League Cup success
Bath City Women missed out on a place in the final of the MJM Sports League Cup as they were beaten 3-1 by AFC Bitton Ladies at the WDS Associates Legal Services Stadium this afternoon.
The home side – who City have yet to beat in six attempts now – got off to a perfect start with two goals in the opening twelve minutes. A ball over the top on four minutes sent Coole clear to calmly slot the ball past Lucy Clay. Then eight minutes later Soppelsa fired home after an initial shot was blocked. Playing down the slope Bitton continued to control the game and it took several good stops by Clay to prevent City falling further behind.
City began the second half with promise but a 51st minute break saw Soppelsa net her second and Bitton’s third. City continued to battle hard but they couldn’t find a way past Bitton’s well-marshalled back line. They finally grabbed a deserved consolation goal when Mils Bellotti looped a header into the net but the referee blew the final whistle straight from the restart to end City’s hopes of a cup double this season.
