A Maddy Brown double helped Bath City Women start 2026 in fine style.

Erin Duffy was also on target as the Romans inflicted just a second league defeat on Mangotsfield United this season.

Adele Elliott had initially levelled for the hosts with a fine finish before City turned on the style after half-time.

Summer signing Clodagh Moran also made her long awaited debut off the bench, claiming an assist in an impressive cameo.

Following an enforced six-week break from fixtures, Matt Abreu’s side looked surprisingly fresh from the off and they netted with their first chance.

Jasmine Rennie helped the ball back in from the right and Brown did superbly to dance away from two defenders before calmly slotting past Amelia Morrish into the bottom left corner.

Rennie could have made it two shortly afterwards after dispossessing Jade Scammell high up the pitch, before dragging just wide.

Mangotsfield levelled on 17 minutes with a stunning goal.

Elliott received the ball from a throw-in, made half a yard of space away from Rosie Burridge and curled the ball into the top left corner from 18 yards, with Lucy Clay close to clawing it out.

It was her 10th goal of the season and only a last ditch Abby Gray interception prevented an 11th, as the Mangoes striker latched on to Emma Brown’s perfectly weighted through ball.

Duffy curled a free-kick over in the closing minutes of an entertaining half with both sides impressing on the 3G at Cossham Street.

The theme continued after the break, with City regaining their lead within three minutes of the restart.

Bex Fry’s fine crossfield ball from right to left found Duffy in room in the penalty area, and she walloped into the top corner with the power beating Morrish at her near post.

Fry nearly had another assist after as her ball flashed across the box and just missed Brown, with Adella Clarke volleying wide as play was recycled.

Beth Edwards’ terrific ball over the top saw Fry remain onside one-on-one, and she controlled well before hammering over from 12 yards.

Clay had been well protected but did well when called upon, denying Elliott at her near post after the impressive striker got the better of Gray.

Abreu brought on Moran midway through the second half for her first outing since signing from Racing Club Luxembourg, which included a Champions League qualifying appearance in 2022 against Juventus.

She immediately linked up well with her teammates and had a hand in City’s third with 20 minutes remaining.

City’s pressing denied Mangotsfield little room to play the ball out, with Moran winning possession and laying off for Brown.

The striker cut onto her left foot and curled out of Morrish’s reach to increase City’s lead.

Clarke shot too close to Morrish after the keeper’s initial poor clearance as confidence soared from Abreu’s side, who were playing some of their best football of the season.

Defensively they remained sound, with Hollie Shone shooting just over from distance the only real scare on Clay’s goal.

City saw out the closing stages comfortably to inflict a first home defeat on Mangotsfield this season.

Despite the impressive result against arguably the best opposition faced this season, it keeps the Stripes in 7th, though just six points behind league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies.
