Match Preview – Maidstone United (A) – Enterprise National League South

The Romans head to Kent on Saturday where they will face play-off chasing Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Most of the fixtures between the two took place across the 1970s and 1980s. The Stones were pretty formidable – losing just one of their first 20 contests against Bath City – during a golden era which eventually saw them promoted to the Football League before reforming in 1992. The two were reunited in the 2015/16 season and United continued their stranglehold over the Romans with a double over them that term. Since then it’s been more evenly matched though a powerful second half display saw the Kent outfit record a 3-0 win at the Gallagher Stadium in February, part of their run which saw them reach the play-off final.

Overall record v Maidstone United:
Pld 44 W6 D17 L21 F34 A67

Last season:
Home D3-3 (Wilson 16, Russe 35, Alves 63)
Away L0-3

TRIVIA

  • The eventful home draw, which saw Jack Batten sent off, was Lee Kendall’s first game as interim manager.
  • City’s only victory at the Gallagher Stadium was in February 2020 thanks to goals from Frankie Artus and Sam Pearson. Current Maidstone boss George Elokobi played for the hosts.

FORM

  • Maidstone had lost four of their previous five in the league before a morale-boosting success over Salisbury last Saturday to leave them just outside the play-offs.
  • Bath City have lost one in eight in all competitions, winning three of their last four away all in following Tuesday’s 4-0 success at Odd Down in the Francis Hillier Premier Cup.
