BSU Sports Media course – February 2026

Bath Spa University (BSU) is excited to announce it is rerunning its successful Introduction to Sports Media course in partnership with Bath City Football Club.

This February, BSU debuted the course and eight learners were able to get hands-on experience with Bath City FC’s media team. Now, the University is rerunning the course to introduce more learners to the exciting world of sports media.

Over five weeks, participants will learn how to cover sports events on social media, headline optimisation, article search engine optimisation and best practices for interviewing at sporting events. Not only will learners have extensive teaching from experienced lecturers, they will also have the opportunity to report live on a Bath City Women’s match, specifically experiencing how to handle the team’s social media accounts, promotion of matches and managing tone of voice.

One of Bath Spa University’s own and volunteer Media Manager at BCFC, Matt Francis, who will be leading the course alongside fellow expert Mark Stillman, shared his enthusiasm:

This course is an excellent opportunity to take your first steps in the world of sports media or enhance your knowledge of the field. Gaining tangible experience in a professional environment, Mark and I will guide you from whistle to whistle, covering the basics of running club accounts, managing key relationships, and producing in-depth match reports.

Georgina, one of our learners from our first cohort, said this about the course:

I really enjoyed my five weeks on Introduction to Sports Media, it was a brilliant experience and learning journey. My favourite parts of the course were learning about how to complete match reports – Georgina

The course will start in February 2026, at just £260 per person, and is the perfect Christmas gift for your budding sports journalist, and/or football fanatic!
