City complete pre-season with big win over young Robins side

City completed their pre-season campaign this afternoon with a morale-boosting 4-0 win over Bristol City U21s at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park.

They opened the scoring after just nine minutes as Luke Russe hooked the ball into the box and an unmarked Scott Wilson lashed it home from six yards. Brad Ash and Kieran Parselle saw chances come and go as City looked to build on this start against a youthful Robins side. A drinks break midway through the half seemed to disrupt City’s momentum and the visitors enjoyed more possession but rarely looked like preventing the Romans reaching the interval ahead.

Within five minutes of the restart City doubled their lead. Ewan Clark’s cross was headed back across goal by Will Jenkins Davies and Wilson bundled it home from almost on the goaline. The third goal arrived on 68 minutes when Danny Greenslade’s corner was headed in by Jack Batten. And City completed the scoring six minutes from time when Mitch Beardmore was wiped out by keeper Thelwell near the corner of the box – Alex Fisher emphatically firing home the penalty.
