Windsor on target as Romans and Angels grind out draw

Owen Windsor netted his first goal in black and white stripes as City and Tonbridge Angels shared the points at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park this evening.

With heavy rain sweeping across the ground the conditions were tough and neither side could impose themselves on the game during the opening half-hour. The visitors had shaded possession, winning a number of corners that tested City’s defensive resolve. They dealt with these solidly but on 31 minutes they lost the ball midway in their half and it was slipped through to Babajide to curl home a shot via the far post. City responded positively to this setback and levelled ten minutes later. Kieran Parselle picked up the ball 20 yards out and his low shot was parried by West-Astuti. Windsor reacted quickest to lift the rebound into the net.

The conditions eased slightly at the start of the second half and City enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges. They couldn’t fashion any clear chances though and the game settled into a more even pattern. It took a vital touch from Ollie Tomlinson to deny Akehurst a close range header on 68 minutes but this was a rare close call for either side. With even heavier rain returning the latter stages became a slog but City finished the game strongly. And in stoppage time they thought they had won the game when Will Jenkins Davies lashed the ball home after Tonbridge failed to deal with a Joe Raynes cross. However, the referee had somehow seen an infringement in the box and ruled out the strike.
