Whitchurch Ladies (3) 3 Bath City Women (2) 6 – Sunday 1 February 2026 – MJM Sports League Cup 2nd Round – South Bristol Sports Centre
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City Women recovered from 2-0 and 3-1 down to progress in the MJM Sports League Cup.
In an absorbing tie played in persistent rain, Matt Abreu’s side fell two goals behind inside 13 minutes.
Hannah Gillett opened the scoring on eight minutes when she chased Faith Constable’s measured through ball, rounded Lucy Clay and slotted home.
The lead was swiftly doubled when Rosie Burridge failed to deal with Jessie Taylor’s drop kick, allowing Constable to pounce and superbly drill into the bottom right corner.
City pulled one back when Bex Fry’s lofted ball reached Tara Taylor, who centred for Maddy Brown to tap in from close range.
Whitchurch added a third when Ilarna Nche shrugged off Sophie Storey and whip in a cross from the byline which deflected off Tara Taylor and looped over Clay.
Beth Edwards’ first time strike was well batted away by Jessie Taylor before City reduced the deficit shortly before half-time.
Eve Trivett’s ball forward was controlled well by Jasmine Rennie, who escaped Ella Cleverley before hammering home confidently.
A stunning goal made it 3-3 just after the interval.
Fry worked a one-two with Emma Vilday on the edge of the box before leathering into the roof of the net from 20 yards.
Jessie had a moment to forget as she gifted City the lead on 53 minutes.
Tara Taylor’s hanging cross was misjudged and gloved straight onto the head of Vilday, who couldn’t miss.
Clay did superbly to keep out Constable when a free-kick wasn’t fully cleared before City made the most of their own set-piece.
Taylor’s low delivery was cleverly flicked by Clodagh Moran which caught out the home defence allowing Burridge to slam in her first for the club.
Moran also opened her account, perfectly curling into the bottom corner after combining with Rennie to cap off a terrific second half display.
