Statement from the New Chair
It is with immense pride and excitement that I write to you as your new Chair of Bath City Football Club. Being born and bred in Bath, I would never have dreamt that fifty years ago, that 8-year-old boy peering over the wall to see the game would have the chance to represent my hometown club. It is a true honour and a responsibility that I do not take lightly, and I am deeply committed to serving this historic club and you, our passionate community.
It might not have been possible, had it not been for the immense job and incredible foundation Nick Blofeld has laid as our Chair over the last eight years. He first took the helm at a time when the club’s future was unclear. Nick was the lead for the “Big Bath City Bid”, which led to the supporters taking a majority shareholding in the club. Nick has been unwavering in his mission to make the club sustainable and has left the club in an immeasurably better position than when he joined.
The number of supporters more than doubled, and we averaged over 1,200 a game last season. Next target is 2000! The Women’s team has been created and is now well established, with promotions and cup trophies under its belt. Nick has fostered strong ties to local organisations, who now support the club in many ways, seen and unseen.
During Nick’s tenure, the club have worked tirelessly to bring extra capital resources and income to the club. The latter has been a big success, where the Club has doubled the turnover. The capital resources have been more of a challenge. Progress on putting in a 3g pitch or the regeneration projects hit bumps in the road outside the club’s control.
It would have been fitting to see some of these projects come to fruition, a reflection of the energy and passion Nick has given to the club.
Nick, there is and always will be a big welcome for you here! THANK YOU.
I am looking forward to supporting this great club, as best I can, for as long as I am Chair.
Up the City!
