Match Preview – Taunton Town (A) – Pre-Season Friendly
City open their pre-season campaign tomorrow evening with a trip to play Southern League Premier Division South side Taunton Town. Remarkably this is only the third time the clubs have faced each other in a pre-season friendly, with the last meeting taking place over 50 years ago where the Peakcocks came out on top by a single goal. More recently City did the double over Taunton in National League South in the 2023/24 season. Goals from Jordan Thomas, Scott Wilson and a Dan Greenslade screamer earned a 3-0 win at Twerton Park, followed up by a 2-0 success at Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Easter Monday. Cody Cooke and Jack Bates netted at the start and end of that contest.
Taunton have already made two pre-season outings, both against step 4 sides. A 2-0 win at newly promoted Portishead Town was followed up by by a 4-1 victory over Mousehole, with ex-City striker Ben Seymour netting a brace.
Trivia:
- This will be Darren Way’s first pre-season friendly in charge of Bath City.
- City haven’t won their first summer friendly of a calendar year since 2021 – a 5-1 success at Larkhall Athletic. Jayden Neilsen was on target in that game, he’s now at Taunton alongside fellow former Romans Nick Grimes and Seymour.
- Josh Gould has just departed the Peacocks, relocating to London for work. The goalkeeper made seven appearances for City in the 2022/23 season, keeping two clean sheets.
Tickets are available to purchase in advance online here. There is no Bath City Radio coverage for this game, however they will be reporting on every other friendly this summer.
We will be wearing an exclusive Macron-branded kit for the game but not either of our new 2025/26 designs which will be officially revealed on Thursday.
