Match Preview – Street (H) – Francis Hillier Premier Cup Quarter Final

It is Francis Hillier Premier Cup action at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Saturday when City face Street in the rearranged quarter final tie.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The clubs were in the same division between 1911/12-1913/14, but all other meetings have been in cup competitions. Tuesday will be the fourth this century – City defeated the Cobblers 5-2 in November 2000 and 3-2 in October 2008 at the Tannery, but the last meeting in November 2015 saw the Western League side produce a shock 3-1 win at Twerton thanks to goals from Dale Hunt, Steve Murray and Craig Herrod. Frankie Artus netted from the penalty spot in response, all four matches since 2000 have been in the Somerset (now Francis Hillier) Premier Cup.

TRIVIA

  • The 2015 defeat saw Jim Rollo make the last of his 484 appearances for the club, with former Somerset CC all-rounder Peter Trego deputise in his only outing for City.
  • Sam Allison netted two in the 5-2 win over Street in 2000. He’s since refereed in the Premier League.
  • City have won 20 of their last 22 SPC ties against Western League opposition. The only outright defeat was against Street in 2015.
  • This will be the first Francis Hillier Premier Cup tie Bath City have played on a Saturday since 28 February 1981. The Romans drew 3-3 with Clevedon Town at Twerton in the quarter-finals, also drew the replay before eventually advancing 2-0 in the second replay, played 39 days after the original tie.

  • Bath City have reached the quarter-finals by defeating Bridgwater United and Odd Down, both by four goals to nil.
  • Street, 14th in Jewson Western Premier, drew 2-2 at Buckland Athletic in their last outing on 17 January. They have overcome Step 6 sides Keynsham Town and Hengrove Athletic to reach the last eight of this competition.
