Last gasp Bowman strike secures hard-fought Ebbsfleet point

Matt Bowman bundled home a 97th minute corner to secure City a point in a 2-2 draw against Ebbsfleet United at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park this evening.

Over 90 minutes earlier the same player had given City the lead. With just three minutes on the clock his deflected 25-yard shot found the corner of the net. Luke Russe almost doubled City’s lead on 11 minutes when his shot was cleared off the line. The visitors equalised in the 28th minute when Dallison fired home after Joe Raynes blocked Barnes’ initial effort. Five minutes later Charlie Binns produced a fine stop to keep out Chapman’s shot and the game reached the interval level.

An early second half chances saw Raynes’ shot comfortable gathered by keeper Hall but Ebbsfleet were beginning to control the game and several times Binns was called into action. The pressure finally told with 12 minutes left when Barnes was brought down in the box by Bowman. Samuel stepped up to fire home the penalty. It looked that would strike would secure the points for the Kent side but in added time to added time City won a corner. Binns came up and got the vital touch to Mitch Beardmore’s delivery to divert it toward goal where Bowman bundled it home to spark joyous scenes on and off the pitch.
