Jerry’s thoughts ahead of Community Day

Today is community day and gives you all the opportunity to come along and pay what you want to watch a very good level of football whilst enjoying the surroundings and everything that Twerton Park has to offer on a matchday. It goes without saying that the community is our club, without your support we won’t exist, we as a club offer a lot back and the partnership between the two goes from strength to strength, as seen with the high attendances still coming to our stadium each week and how visible the club is in the schools and surrounding areas.

The community and Foundation programmes are bigger and better than ever, a lot of hard work has gone into the running of the programmes, the people that work within these should be given a huge pat on the back.

Tuesday night saw the players put in a fantastic performance and then gaining the deserved three points v Havant. I really do believe this group is capable of anything if we are lucky enough to be able to field a consistent squad week in week out.

Tuesday’s game was a real cracker. It had everything, strong defending, free flowing football and a killer instinct to see the opposition off when we had weakened them in so many areas.

I felt we were still the better side with both sides having eleven men and had three really good chances to take the lead through, Kieran, Scotty and Sonny. At halftime with them down to ten men we spoke about ball speed, switches of play and staying patient waiting to create the space for our opening.

It was two really good goals that gave us the lead, and we never really felt in danger throughout if we are honest. We continued to defend set pieces really well and look bright and lively in our attacks.

I am so pleased to see Sonny and Scotty doing a lot of their work in our new system in and around the box and scoring goals between the goalposts as all good strikers do.

Our attacking formation is allowing us to put more bodies in the box and deliver into key areas from both sides of the pitch. We also have players that are finding space and being picked out in between the lines proving very difficult to play against.

You can see the confidence growing in the group, recent performances and results have meant we are still in sight of the playoffs but we will just literally focus on adding to our total in trying win every game that’s in front of us.

We have the bare minimum in regards of numbers available to us with several important players still missing, but this group will keep rolling their sleeves up and have a right go every time they step on the pitch. They are a joy to coach and manage and deserve some good fortune.

A run of wins can change a season so quickly so today we hope to add to our back to back wins with another positive performance and hopefully three points.

We totally respect our opposition but we fear no team in this division. If we can get it right on the pitch and you guys do your bit off it by making the atmosphere a vocal and supportive one we have a much better chance of coming out with a positive result.

Enjoy your day and game!
