Jenkins Davies strike enough to earn hard-fought Whites win
City secured a first win of the 2025/26 season this evening at Salisbury thanks to a Will Jenkins Davies strike five minutes before half-time.
Neither side could gain the upper hand during a low-key first half. Jenkins Davies’ well-struck 8th minute shot was straight at former City keeper Buse and the same player was denied by a last-ditch block nine minutes later. The home side enjoyed decent spells of possession but rarely looked like finding a way through City’s backline. With openings at a premium for both sides Alex Fisher could have done better on 37 minutes, firing over the bar after finding space down the right. However, three minutes later the deadlock was broken as Jenkins Davies burst into the box and shot across Buse into the corner of the net.
An early second half Ngalo shot for the hosts flew narrowly wide as they slowly began to get on top, although City still posed a threat when they got forward. Briggs blazed a good chance over the bar on 56 minutes then Davies headed wide ten minutes later. Brad Ash dragged a 71st minute shot wide as City looked to give themselves breathing space. With eleven minutes remaining Coppin found space in the area but was denied by a great Harvey Wiles-Richards block. Salisbury were now dominating possession but failing to convert this into clear chances. In the end the closest they came to grabbing an equaliser was from a corner deep into stoppage time. Buse came up for the kick and the ball dropped to him two yards out but he could only volley high over the bar. Moments later the final whistle signalled a hard-fought victory for the Romans.
